Favourite event in Havil 🏫:

My obvious answer would be Sports Day because I do find enjoyment in the individual games as well as the challenging team events.

However, instead of talking about that, I've decided to enlighten you on a certain memory regarding our school's library instead. This is my favourite event.

Here is a little backstory:

Since young, I grew up with the constant companion of my books, so it became a natural instinct to care about these magnificent objects. This was my ultimate reason of choosing to be a librarian instead of other responsibility roles because I wanted to be a part of a community which cares for the well-being of these books.

During each year-end term break, the librarians are tasked with the strenuous job of deep-cleaning and reorganizing the entire library.

Back to the present academic year:

Last year before entering the 2019/2020 term, these circumstances were no different; the only addition was that the head librarians (Zhi Yang and I) had also decided to help our head librarian teacher (Ms Huei Yi) with the redecorating aspect of the library. We came back for the majority of summer break to evaluate with Ms Huei Yi about how the layout should be, in order to fit the needs of the Havil student-body.

On top of that, we were also struck with ample loads of new and old books to sort against the many different categories of books. Next, we went through the tedious part of relabelling every individual book, which was made relatively bearable because it was filled with the chaotic sounds of laughter and chit-chat from librarians and teachers alike.

Eventually, after many long treacherous hours, we had finally managed to place the entire library collection back onto their designated shelving area with the help of the whole teaching staff!

In summary, this was by far one of my favourite memories since becoming a librarian because we were really given the chance to express our gratitude towards the library. Having to be able to work alongside Ms Huei Yi was such a joy in many ways, even if it was only for a little while :)

Shout Out ✊:

I really appreciate everyone, both my friends and teachers who can "tahan" my weirdness throughout my period of time here in Havil, haha!

SPEECH WRITE UP

Grateful? Idk la

Hi! My name is See Wei and I’ve been a student at Havil since the year 2015. I’ve always fantasized about attending graduation ever since becoming a secondary student, so I probably would be lying if I said that I wasn’t a little devastated over the cancellation of it. Thankfully, our teachers have prepared this semi-graduation for us and I’m extremely grateful for this given experience!

Before I go on, I want to say a big thank you to all the teachers, especially Mr Lee, because he took time out of his busy schedule to give the business class students a final round of revision before our finals arrived. Mr Phan also needs a special shout out because I’ve been a headache to him during additional maths lessons! To my friends and classmates, thank you for the constant support and help throughout the many struggling years we all have been through together and I'm truly grateful to have met each and everyone of you! Finally for my parents, thank you for your never- ending encouragement towards everything that I want to achieve; even if it may sound ridiculous at times, I do hope that someday, my achievements will be something that you’ll end up being proud of as well.

Let me tell you a little backstory. I came into Year 7 right after finishing my UPSR (a final examination in primary national school), and I remembered being really nervous because I was afraid of meeting new people. As the class flooded with new faces, I recognized my primary school friend, Zhao Yun, entering the class and we immediately spoke over hushed voices on how anxious we both were. I had definitely calmed my nerves a little after that, knowing one familiar face in the sea of students. The term went by quickly, and soon enough, we were entering our final term which means that the big year end examinations were approaching. As exam weeks rolled closer, I neglected my studies because I gave the excuse of saying “I’ve done a lot of homework and schoolwork, which counts as my revision time”. In the end, this simple saying ended up being my downfall as I saw my grades plummeting from maybe a B range to the C range.

People always ask me why I constantly want to excel in my school work, studies and even sports, it was because of that one bad experience which has led me to understand that you aren't going to achieve that certain something until you have given your time and energy into it. Consistent efforts weigh more than just saying “I want to score an A”, because the actions you have commited, shows how much you really want it. That's why I go all out for every task or assignment that was given to me, whether it was in the terms of education or in the terms or sports, because I know what results I want to see for myself.

My advice to you is to know what you are expecting to accomplish from yourself. For me, that is to excel in every aspect of my studies and sports, but it's different for everyone. So find what it is that fuels your soul and keep working towards it, because the end product will leave you feeling a great sense of satisfaction that you can't find anywhere else. Good luck guys!!
