Favourite event in Havil 🏫:

My favourite event in Havil wasn't an "official" event per say, it is one of those underground things that I did on a whim and it turned out to have been an amazing experience.

This "event" was when Malaysia had horrendous haze in August or September 2019, so the school had to close for 2 days. The Head Librarians (See Wei and I) and a number of teachers came together to get the library sorted.

I felt that it was incredibly magical because See Wei and I had been working on the library after its relocation for a fortnight; having worked our butts to smithereens and spines to shambles, the teachers came to the rescue and helped us finish up the remaining grunt work of re-shelving the books. This would've taken much longer to finish if it wasn't for the help of the teachers.

More than that, I enjoyed this event much more due to the fact that I could work closely with the other Head Librarian, See Wei, in designing the layout of the library, deciding the new furniture for the library, and many many hours of organising the books. More than that, the best of this event was getting closer to Ms Huey Yi, our Head Librarian Teacher while working on the library and the other teachers like Ms Carmen, Ms Metrisha, and Ms Lydia :D.

Shout Out ✊:

I'd like to give a shout out to Sean for being by my side throughout high school and being there with me through tough times of taking up add maths, and stressing out every day on the homework we get!!

I have a shout out to See Wei as well, for being such a great friend and a great teammate in the projects we do together; even if the project isn't one where we are on the same team, we still help each other out :) (For example, International Day)

SPEECH WRITE UP

Good morning to my teachers, fellow Havilians and guests, my name is Zhi Yang. Today, I stand here before you to give a short speech on my graduation! :D

I have been in Havil for 5 years and throughout my time here, I have seen many people come and go. With that being said, I want to appreciate the people who have stayed by my side throughout my time here. The friends I have made here have affected my growth as a person as well as the way I make decisions.

People who know me personally know that I am an awkward person, I am not gifted in the socialising area. A good memory of mine to this day is the first time I had to take the train home. I was certain that I would’ve gotten lost in the station, but fortunately I had some very friendly people to show me the ropes. Upon reflection, I’d like to say that because of these rides home with my friends, I have learnt how to be sociable.

Albeit being reluctant and shy at first, I can honestly say I am glad I came to Havil. I will carry forward all the things I have learnt throughout my time here. I appreciate every opportunity, challenge, period of uncertainty that I experienced here as a student. They were all meant to grow me as a person.

For example, taking initiative. I learnt this from the countless group projects where everyone in the group would have a horrible start with nobody knowing what is going on. For me, seeing such messiness in our group organisation made me irritated. Throughout group projects, I’ve also learned leadership skills. From maintaining the focus of the group in achieving our goal to speaking or convincing my teammates towards getting things done. I wouldn’t say it was easy learning this skill, but I certainly had fun whilst picking it up!

All of this sparked in me a desire to do something about class organisation too. And thus, this created my 5 year streak of being the class monitor. I am proud of having taken up this responsibility for a long period of time.

My fellow Havilians, my speech is coming to a close. But before that, I just want to give some appreciation towards everybody in Havil like the student body, the teachers, the administrative staff and the guards. Without you, I wouldn’t have had such a great time learning in Havil, and most importantly, striving towards my future self and goals.

Thank you for giving me your time.
